Tahion SPD
a research and production company

Tahion is a research and production company. Small research and production company (MNPP) Tahion was established in 15 May, 1990.

Tahion was an integrated operating facility which has been focused exclusively on proprietary solutions and in-house manufacturing. We also follow this policy today.

In the beginning, the company was focused on research and development projects and small-scale manufacturing. Such projects included, e.g., control boards for OTIS elevators. The company was producing Sinclair type Spectrum-Contact gaming PCs till 1994. Today, Tahion is a serious player in the market of closed-circuit television and weather protection systems.

Surge protection.

Tahion is focused on the development and large-scale manufacturing of surge protection equipment::

  • Equipment protection devices in video transmission lines.
  • Equipment protection devices at secondary power inputs.
  • Protection devices for protection against 230V power line overvoltage in houses and perimeter-based systems.
  • Surge protection devices in RS 485 and Ethernet lines.

For a 30-year period, Tahion has found and is still finding new market niches to reach its full scientific and technological potential successfull.

There is no any electronic lightning strike protection, but SPD surge protection devices together with lightning protection are an efficient means of protection against adverse effects for electronic devices. SPDs are also called lightning arresters, but that inherently reflects only a part of their capabilities. Understanding the function of this class of devices as protection against induced voltages (in a feed line or directly in equipment) of various origins, e.g. current switching, lightning strikes, electric transport, etc., will be more comprehensive.

Various SPD classes are used in accordance with their intended purpose and location. Class 2 and Class 3 SPDs are the best choice for electronic devices with low voltage (220V) input and output circuits. Class 1 SPDs are used for higher voltages. There are integrated devices which combine the protection from two adjacent SPD classes.
